Christine Laquet est diplômée de l'Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Lyon et de l'Ecole Cantonale d'Art de Lausanne. Son oeuvre est habitée par la sensibilité baroque : il s’agit avant tout d’un art du semblant, du rite, du décor mais aussi de la monstruosité ou de la transe. Son travail est aujourd’hui aussi bien diffusé dans un réseau national de galerie et centre d’art et aussi sur la scène internationale (Innsbrück, Hannovre, Séoul, Bangkok, Recife, Sao Paolo, Poznan, New York).
Christine Laquet porte un regard sur un territoire précis, telle une démarche récurrente qui l’incite à de nombreux déplacements. Du voyage proche ou lointain, elle laisse toujours une part importante à l’inattendu des rencontres et s’engage dans une observation des liens entre l’homme et la nature, de l’animal au paysage. Au travers de “fictions historiées” dans lesquelles le monde naturel et sauvage côtoie l’artifice, elle questionne les croyances contemporaines et porte une attention particulière aux rites sociaux qu’elle considère comme les points de connexion et de tension qui agissent fortement, telle une résurgence, dans notre société contemporaine. Le choix d’une diversité des techniques de réalisations et modalités de production (vidéo, peinture, sculpture...) ainsi que des multiples collaborations qu’elle met en œuvre participe de ce projet de “déplacement”. S’appuyant sur la pensée deleuzienne, elle revendique cette position par le fait « qu’il n’y a nul besoin de l’unité pour former un système », car il ne s’agit pas de reproduire ou d’inventer des formes, mais de « capter des forces ».

Since 2000, when she gratuated from the National Fine Art School of Lyon, Christine Laquet has been exploring different forms of expression including sculpture, painting, photography and video. Her work is inhabited by a baroque sensitivity: art of pretense, rite, but also monstrosity or fright. Her works have been exhibited in a national network of galleries and art centers in France (the National Museum of Fine Art of Nantes, the L.A.I.T. Art Center in Albi, the Modest Art Museum of Se?te, the Contemporary Art Center of Monte?limar, Chapelle Jeanne d’Arc Art Center, Thouars). As well as in the international scene (Bangkok, Hanover, Innsbru?ck, New York, Poznan, Recife, Sao Paolo, Seoul), as in the Gyeonggi Creation Center, in South Korea, the Modern Art Museum Aloisio Magalhaes in Recife, Brazil, the Galeria [ON] in Poznan, Poland or the Bangkok University Gallery, Bangkok, Thailand amongst others.
The question of the territory takes part of my artistic step and incites me with many displacements. The discussion thread of my work is nature -understood as much in the form of the animal, of the organics as of the landscape- and of his most savage relationship to the political and economic power. I propose fictions, which are deeply link to a (hi)story in which the natural and wild world meet the artifice, the lure. At the crossroads of political, mythological, anthropological and natural history, I question the contemporary beliefs and make familiar bonds between the social sphere and the ritual habits. Refering to Deleuze's thought, I claim that "there is no need for the unit to form a system" because it is not to reproduce or invent forms, but to "capture forces." As a recurring step, I like to consider specific sites: this movement towards “elsewhere” undoubtedly allows me to think by intersection, between two times, by transfer and exchange.
